Job summary

The American Heart Association in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Development Director for in-person fundraising activities. You will drive revenue through corporate sponsorships and donor engagement, manage a sponsor pipeline, and coordinate events and committees to support Heart Ball initiatives.

Qualifications

  • 3 years of relevant experience in fundraising, sales, or related fields.
  • University/College degree or equivalent experience is required.
  • Ability to travel locally up to 75% and occasional overnights; reliable transportation required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office basics is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Generate revenue by prospecting and securing local corporate sponsorships and individual donations.
  • Build and maintain a pipeline of prospective sponsors and donors aligned to campaign goals.
  • Develop and present proposals and materials to secure revenue and volunteer engagement.
  • Recruit and steward campaign chairs, executive volunteers, and committees.
  • Coordinate the event auction and lead volunteers to solicit items.
  • Grow Cor Vitae Society members through strategic cultivation and engagement.
  • Plan events in collaboration with partners and internal teams.
  • Support campaign communications in coordination with the Communications Director.

We are currently hiring a Development Director in Charlotte . The Director will generate revenue for our Heart Ball fundraising campaign. This campaign includes our signature Charlotte Heart Ball event.

This position is in-person with a daily presence in the market.

We have a fast-paced sales type of environment with the main responsibility of driving revenue in support of our mission. We offer a base salary with the potential to earn an incentive up to 25% of your base pay. The potential incentive is based on achieving certain revenue targets and triggers.

Responsibilities
  • Generate revenue by prospecting and securing local corporate sponsorship and individual donations. Achieve revenue goals by building and maintaining relationships with corporate partners and donors.
  • Build and maintain a pipeline of prospective corporate sponsors and donors by conducting research that matches to the campaign goals and the Association’s mission.
  • Develop and present proposals and accompanying materials to secure revenue and volunteer engagement.
  • Recruit, engage, and steward campaign chairs, executive volunteer leaders and committee members to drive fundraising success and community engagement.
  • Coordinate the event auction including leading a committee of volunteers to solicit auction items and prepare packages that will raise funds.
  • Grow, engage, and retain Cor Vitae Society members through strategic cultivation, stewardship, and year-round engagement opportunities that inspire long-term philanthropic support.
  • Plan and implement events in collaboration with internal and external partners.
  • Work with a Communications Director to support and promote campaign communication plans.
Qualifications
  • 3 years of relevant experience in fundraising, sales, or other related experience
  • University/College degree or equivalent experience
  • Ability to do daily local travel up to 75% and some overnight trips as needed; requires access to reliable transportation at all times on an immediate basis
  • Ability to lift and/or move large objects (such as boxes) with the expectation that heavier items would be broken down into smaller components or requesting additional assistance may be required before lifting and/or moving
  • Must have at least basic knowledge and skill/proficiency with Microsoft Office
