Illinois

Development Associate (Part-Time, Contract Position) Grassroots Law & Organizing for Workers (formerly known as National Legal Advocacy Network) January 15, 2024

Grassroots Law & Organizing for Workers (GLOW) seeks a part-time, temporary Development Associate to help advance our mission of leveraging legal strategies to build worker power. The Development Consultant will play a key role leading our fundraising efforts while our Executive Director is on parental leave.

Who We Are:

GLOW, Grassroots Law & Organizing for Workers, is dedicated to shifting the balance of power towards greater equity in our economy and society by leveraging legal strategies and resources to build worker power. We do this by working in deep partnership with base-building organizations. Together, we empower systematically marginalized people to take collective action, challenge predatory and exploitative working conditions, and advance policies that build worker power and create long-term systemic change.

GLOW was formerly known as National Legal Advocacy Network (NLAN) and was a fiscally sponsored project of the National Employment Law Project (NELP) from 2019 to 2023. In the past four years, we reached over 65,000 low-wage workers, engaged in litigation impacting over 6,000 low-wage workers, put approximately $10 million back into the hands of low-wage workers and their communities, and provided technical support for over 30 organizing campaigns.

The Role:

This is a part-time, contract position. We anticipate Development Associate will work approximately 40-50 hours per month from February through May 2024.

The scope of work will involve:
• Identifying grant opportunities that align with GLOW’s mission and goals;
• Draft compelling LOIs, grant proposals, applications, and reports that will be shared with the fundraising committee for feedback and approval;
• Work with GLOW’s Legal Organizer to develop fundraising and marketing materials (e.g. primers, impact reports, videos, worker testimonials, social media content
• Develop a plan to diversify GLOW’s funding through individual donors, law firms, and unions;
• Create a thorough proposal for fundraising events, campaigns, and initiatives to be shared with the fundraising committee.

Desired Qualifications include:
•3+ years of experience with grant writing and/or other development functions;
•Proven ability to organize and synthesize large amounts of information into compelling written content on deadline;
•Knowledge of national funding landscape for workers’ rights, racial justice, and legal service organizations;
•Highly organized with impeccable time management and prioritization skills, including the ability to organize and digest complex information, track details, work independently, and produce a quality work product;
•Exceptional communication skills and ability to work collaboratively;
•Strong understanding of racial and economic justice, intersectionality, how race and power shape systems in our society, and how grassroots organizing works in practice.

Compensation and Location

This is a part-time, remote, contract position paid at an hourly rate of $33-43/hour.
