Job summary

Housing Opportunity Management Enterprises (HOME) is seeking a Staff Accountant - Development to oversee construction and loan closing processes, including draw submissions and closing draws, while supporting budgeting and financial reporting.

The role requires extensive accounting experience in development/construction, strong Excel skills, and knowledge of HUD requirements. On-site El Paso, with a robust benefits package and career growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience; 3+ years in general ledger and development/construction accounting.
• Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis.
• Knowledge of HUD-regulated public housing accounting and compliance preferred.
• Bilingual Spanish/English a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Development Department's construction and loan closing processes, overseeing draw submissions.
• Prepare construction loan closing draws and assist with permanent loan conversion.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, month-end/year-end reporting and variance analysis.
• Prepare monthly project-level financial reports and identify cost overruns; recommend corrective actions.
• Maintain general ledgers, perform reconciliations, and ensure audit readiness.
• Ensure internal controls and accuracy of cash flows and budgets.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners to address business challenges.
