Lightshare Behavioral Wellness & Recovery is seeking a Detox Nurse in Sarasota, FL. The role supports patients undergoing detoxification from substances, monitoring withdrawal risk, and coordinating with a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities include assessments, vital signs, medication administration, and family education. The position features 12-hour night shifts, four days one week and three days the next, with alternating weekends.

About the Role:

The Detox Nurse plays a critical role in the healthcare and social assistance sector by providing specialized nursing care to patients undergoing detoxification from substances such as alcohol, opioids, and other drugs. This position involves closely monitoring patients' physical and psychological conditions to ensure safe and effective withdrawal management while minimizing complications. The nurse collaborates with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, counselors, and social workers to develop and implement individualized care plans. Additionally, the Detox Nurse educates patients and their families about the detox process, potential withdrawal symptoms, and strategies for maintaining long-term recovery. Ultimately, this role aims to support patients through a challenging phase of treatment, promoting safety, comfort, and a foundation for ongoing rehabilitation.

12 hour NIGHT shifts, 4 days week one, 3 days week two. Every other weekend.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Current and valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the United States.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in behavioral health, knowledge of withdrawal symptoms, medication administration, and patient monitoring.
• Experience working in inpatient or outpatient detoxification or addiction treatment settings.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems and documentation standards.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments upon admission to determine detoxification needs and risks.
• Monitor vital signs and withdrawal symptoms regularly to detect any adverse reactions or complications.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with established protocols and physician orders.
• Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families regarding the detox process and recovery options.
• Document patient progress accurately and communicate changes in condition to the healthcare team promptly.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care plans and facilitate smooth transitions to subsequent treatment phases.
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment that supports patient dignity and confidentiality.

Skills:

The Detox Nurse utilizes clinical assessment skills daily to evaluate patients' physical and mental status, ensuring timely identification of withdrawal symptoms and complications. Strong communication skills are essential for educating patients and families, as well as collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated care. Critical thinking and decision-making abilities are applied when administering medications and adjusting care plans based on patient responses. Compassion and emotional resilience help the nurse provide empathetic support to patients facing challenging withdrawal experiences. Additionally, proficiency with healthcare technology, including electronic health records, facilitates accurate documentation and enhances continuity of care.
