Job summary

The National Police in Independence, MO is seeking a Detention Intake Officer to process individuals entering the detention facility. You will handle intake of personal belongings, booking, fingerprinting and searches, and complete medical questionnaires.

You will monitor the detention area to ensure safety and security, coordinate bonding/arraignments, provide court documentation, arrange meals, maintain the facility, and perform data entry for records and reports as directed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required or equivalent experience.
• Aptitude in record keeping and report preparation.
• Familiarity with computer applications and effective communication is desired.

Position Summary:

Processes individuals into the Independence Police Detention facility. Responsible for intake of personal belongings; booking; fingerprinting and searching detainees/prisoners; completes medical questionnaires. Monitor the detention area to provide safety and security for arrestees. Coordinates the bonding and/or arraignment of detainees with Municipal/ State/ Federal Court; provides courts with proper documentation. Arranges meals and makes provisions for personal needs of prisoners. Maintains the detention facility; cleans cells; laundry; and supplies. Perform data entry of required records and reports. Inform the Detective Unit of felony arrests and arraignments and other duties as directed.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED, or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
• Aptitude in record keeping, report preparation, computer applications and effective communication is desired.
• Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire and complete certification in CPR, First Aid, AED and LVNR within three years.
• Knowledge of applicable detention laws as well as ability to maintain order and security within the detention unit preferred.
