Job summary

The Charter County of Wayne seeks a Police Officer for the Wayne County Sheriff's Office in Detroit, MI. The role focuses on inmate security and supervision at the Adult Detention Facility, reporting to a Sheriff's Command Officer and supporting the daily operation of the jail.

Qualifications

• Citizen of the United States required.
• Must be 18 years or older with a HS diploma or GED.
• 3 years full-time experience in the Wayne County Sheriff's Office as a Police Officer.
• Valid Michigan driver's license with a good driving record.
• Must pass MSCTC Corrections Physical Ability Test before hire.
• Must pass EMPCO Corrections written exam before hire.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and ensure security of the Wayne County Sheriff's Adult Detention Facility and its prisoners.
• Conform to rules, regulations and procedures of the facility.
• Provide humane treatment of prisoners.
• Testify at legal or legislative proceedings.
• Monitor, supervise and control inmate prisoners.
• Ensure inmate adherence to laws, rules and regulations.
• Prepare reports and investigate incidents; transport inmates and provide emergency assistance.
• Record and document crime or accident scenes as required.
• Ensure health and welfare of inmates and overall facility safety.
• Other duties deemed necessary.

Education

Citizen of United States

18 years of age or older

High school diploma or GED

3 years full-time experience as Police Officer

Michigan Driver's License

MSCTC Local Corrections Officer Physical Ability Test

EMPCO Corrections written exam
