Job summary

Cox Automotive Inc. is seeking a Detail Shop Quality Inspector to ensure vehicles are cleaned and detailed to sale condition per customer specifications and Auction standards. You will inspect, report, and ensure reconditioning meets quality before approval.

You will verify wash, interior, and buffing steps, reject substandard work, and coordinate with the team to maintain clean, organized work areas. Prior detail shop experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must be able to pass a background and drug test.
  • 2–4 years of experience in a detail shop, re-conditioning work, or as a quality controller inspector preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License and safe driving record required.
  • Ability to drive standard and automatic transmission vehicles.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • Must be detail-oriented and organized.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, talk and hear; frequent bending, stooping, and climbing.
  • Vision abilities adequate for close and depth perception.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and verify that the quality of detail/reconditioning work aligns with customer specifications and contract standards.
  • Inspect wash bay steps and look for grease, debris, and issues in components.
  • Inspect interior cleaning steps for debris removal and cleanliness of surfaces.
  • Verify buffing steps and proper application of dressings, waxing, and polishing.
  • Inspect final touches on windows, trim, and moldings.
  • Reject vehicles not meeting standards and initiate redo; generate reports and re-inspect issues.
  • Ensure employees have proper equipment and training; monitor use.
  • Maintain wash bays and work areas clean; manage end-of-day cleanup.
  • May drive vehicles into building and to staging areas; participate in occasional sale day driving.
  • May require overtime (>40 hours/week) as needed.

Job description

This position ensures that vehicles sent to the Detail Shop are cleaned and detailed to sale condition according to customer specifications and Auction standards by inspecting vehicles and work areas upon completion of reconditioning work.

Job Responsibilities
  • Inspect and verify that quality of detail/reconditioning work performed is in accordance to customer specifications and contract standards. Examine visually and by touch if necessary. Track all vehicles entering and exiting the lanes using a detail sheets.
  • Check wash bay steps by inspecting trunk jambs, looking for grease on hinges, bugs, fender wells and lower splash shields, etc.
  • Check interior cleaning steps by inspecting ashtrays, dashboards, panels, vinyl, windows, carpets and upholstery, and making sure debris is removed, etc.
  • Check buffing steps by verifying that dressing was properly applied to the engine and tires and that the vehicle was waxed, buffed and polished to appropriate standards.
  • Check final touch-up by inspecting windows, bumpers, moldings, wax, etc.
  • Reject vehicles not meeting standards and return to detail shop for redo. Generate appropriate reports and re-inspect problem vehicles to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Ensure employees have proper equipment and are properly trained in its use.
  • Ensure wash bays and other work areas are cleaned at the end of the workday and/or throughout if necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager or supervisor, including driving vehicle into building and to proper clean car staging area, occasional sale day driving.
  • May be required to work overtime (more than 40 hours per week) as business needs dictate
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Need to be able to pass a background and prison background check and drug test
  • 2 - 4 years of experience in a detail shop, re-conditioning work, or as a quality controller inspector highly preferred.
  • Valid Driver\'s License and safe driving record.
  • Ability to drive standard and automatic transmission vehicles
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • Must be detail-oriented and organized.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, talk and hear. Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, squat and climb.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Vision abilities required to include close, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Work Environment: Frequent exposure to wet and/or humid conditions. Occasional exposure to outdoor weather, moving mechanical parts, electrical shock hazard, fumes, dust and odors. Moderate noise level.

USD 13.70 - 20.53 per hour

Compensation

Hourly pay rate is in the range of $13.70 - $20.53/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate\'s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.

Benefits

Employees are eligible to receive a minimum of sixteen hours of paid time off every month and seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Employees are also eligible for additional paid time off in the form of bereavement leave, time off to vote, jury duty leave, volunteer time off, military leave, and parental leave.
