Job summary

depthfirst is seeking a Designer to shape how our products work and how we show up in the world. This flexible role may focus on product, brand, or both, with emphasis on exceptional craft, judgment, and applying it to ambitious problems.

You will work with engineers, product, and AI researchers to make complex security systems intuitive, trustworthy, and powerful, and translate technical ideas into clear, engaging stories across launches and customer touchpoints.

The Role

As a Designer, you’ll help shape both how depthfirst’s products work and how the company shows up in the world.

This is a flexible role for someone whose strengths may lean toward product, brand, or span both. We do not expect every candidate to have equal experience across every area. We care most about exceptional craft, strong judgment, and the ability to apply both to ambitious, unfamiliar problems.

Depending on your strengths and interests, you may design core product experiences, create brand and marketing work, or move between the two.

On the product side, you’ll work closely with engineers, product, and AI researchers to make complex security systems intuitive, trustworthy, and powerful. On the brand side, you’ll translate technical ideas into clear, compelling stories across launches, campaigns, events, and customer touch points.

This is a hands-on role with meaningful ownership. You’ll help define what we build, how we communicate it, and how our design language evolves as the company grows.

What You’ll Do

• Design product experiences from ambiguous problem brief through polished execution, that help people understand, investigate, and act on complex code security, transparency systems, and knowledge work.
• Translate complex ideas in AI and security into experiences and narratives that feel clear, engaging, and approachable.
• Create brand work across our website, product launches, campaigns, sales materials, events, editorial content, company storytelling, and out-of-home advertising.
• Build and evolve shared product and brand systems that help the company move quickly without sacrificing quality.
• Prototype and iterate on ideas at the level of fidelity needed to make good decisions.
• Collaborate closely with design, engineering, product, research, marketing, go-to-market as applicable.
• Contribute beyond your primary discipline when a project benefits from it, with support from the broader design team.

What We’re Looking For

Minimum qualifications:

• A portfolio demonstrating exceptional craft and thoughtful problem-solving in product design, brand design, or both.
• Strong visual design fundamentals and close attention to detail.
• The ability to turn complex or technical ideas into clear, intuitive experiences or compelling visual stories.
• A high level of ownership and comfort working through ambiguity.
• Strong collaboration and communication.

Preferred qualifications. We encourage you to apply if you meet some, but not all, of these:

• 4+ years of experience in product, brand, visual, interaction, marketing, or multidisciplinary design. Level and scope can flex based on experience.
• Experience designing AI products, technical tools, or other novel systems where established patterns do not yet exist.
• Experience contributing to a design system, component library, or scalable brand system.
• The ability to prototype in code to accelerate design and development workflows.
• Experience creating work across websites, launches, campaigns, editorial content, events, or customer-facing materials.
• A track record of raising the bar for quality, clarity, and craft.
