Job summary

KFI Engineers invites motivated students to join our internship program in the IPA department, Summer Term 2027. This role offers hands-on exposure to diverse projects, mentorship, and collaboration with senior engineers to sharpen drafting and design skills.

As an intern, you will clean up 2D drawings, model 3D elements, draft CAD drawings, and assist with plotting, scanning, and document prep. Strong communication, organization, and willingness to travel are valued.

Qualifications

• : Pursuing a two-year Associate's (AAS) degree in drafting and design, engineering technology, or a related field with focus in mechanical, process, or structural design.
• : Demonstrated proficiency with computer technology, including MS Office applications.
• : Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• : Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
• : Effective time management and organizational abilities.
• : Ability to work independently and collaboratively in shifting priorities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• Pursuing a two-year Associate's (AAS) degree in drafting and design, engineering technology, or a related field, with a focus in mechanical, process, or structural design.
• Demonstrated proficiency with computer technology, including MS Office applications.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
• Effective time management and organizational abilities.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively, adapting quickly to shifting priorities and workload demands.
• Consistently demonstrate professional engineering ethics and adhere to company policies and procedures.
• Ability and willingness to travel if needed.

Preferred

• Working knowledge of engineering design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit).
• Interest in building systems, construction environments, and/or commercial HVAC.
• Coursework, projects, or experience related to one or more of the following:
  • Mechanical design
  • Process/Industrial design
  • Structural design
  • 2D drafting and 3D modeling
• Comfortable working in both office and construction site settings.

• Occasionally, some work locations will feature the tough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment.

Compensation

$23.00 per hour. The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual qualifications, experience, work location, and education. This position will earn ESST (Earned Sick and Safe Time) in accordance with state and local law.
