Job summary

Phoenix Contact is seeking a Designer II in the Harrisburg area to design and sustain products that meet customer and business requirements. You will collaborate with Product Management, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Planning, and external vendors to drive development and lifecycle management of products.

Role requires intermediate CAD proficiency, packaging design, and enclosure/sheet metal development. Hybrid work arrangement with opportunities for cross-functional impact and cost-aware,

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical degree in mechanical/electrical engineering technology or related field.
  • Knowledge of GD&T preferred for mechanical engineers.
  • 2-5 years of mechanical or electrical design preferred.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects while being the prime contributor.
  • Communicate and work effectively with others.
  • 3D Solid Modeling experience.
  • 2D Drawing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Create 2D & 3D CAD drawings/models.
  • Create assembly drawings for manufacturing.
  • Understand tolerancing and dimensioning.
  • Change coordination.
  • Create & maintain Bills of Materials.
  • Implement appropriate packaging.
  • Provide CAD and technical support of existing product designs.
  • Collaborate on new product requests.
  • Identify and integrate second-source/replacement components.
  • Update/maintain information within ERP and PLM systems.
  • Interface with Sales, customers, and Product Managers to obtain and fulfill requirements.
  • Work with approved Vendors, Strategic Purchasing, Planning and Production for pricing and lead times.
  • Answer questions and provide information to manufacturing as needed.
  • Develop new processes/techniques for product manufacturing with the team.
  • Support production with design interpretation and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate on design reviews and cross-functional projects.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and procurement teams.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Job description

The Designer II is responsible for creating and sustaining products and solutions that meet customer and business requirements. This role collaborates cross-functionally with Product Management, Customers, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Planning, and external vendors to support the successful development and lifecycle management of products. The Designer II applies intermediate-level expertise in CAD tools, packaging design, and the development of enclosures and sheet metal components. This position supports both new product development and enhancements to existing products, ensuring designs are functional, manufacturable, and aligned with quality and cost objectives. Through strong technical execution and collaboration, The Designer II contributes to innovation, continuous improvement, and operational excellence within the organization.

Responsibilities
  • Create 2D & 3D CAD drawings / Models
  • Creation of assembly drawings for manufacturing
  • Thorough understanding of tolerancing and dimensioning

Qualifications
  • Associate Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Technology or Technical Degree in related field
