Job summary

Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, MS, seeks an experienced design engineer to design components or portions of ship systems and modify existing designs to improve manufacturability. You will use CAD/CAM tools such as CATIA, AutoCAD, ShipConstructor, ARAS and NavisWorks to produce rough layouts and drawings, coordinating with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material and planning teams.

The Role

Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.

Must Have

• High School Diploma/GED and 7 years of experience
• Associates Degree or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 3 years experience

Nice to Have

• Excellent verbal skills, competent in software (Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Shipconstructor, ARAS and NavisWorks).
• Familiar with ship specifications and a working knowledge of ship ventilation construction.
• LHA8 Design Experience preferred.
