Job description

MacKenzie-Childs is seeking a Product Designer to lead the design and development of products across our Kitchen, Dining, and Entertaining categories.

This role combines creativity, design expertise, and product development to create products that reflect our brand, meet customer needs, and support business goals.

We are looking for a designer who can identify market opportunities through research, consumer insights, trend forecasting, and competitive analysis. The ideal candidate can clearly communicate design ideas, influence decisions, and help bring successful products to market.

This position requires strong ownership, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. The successful candidate is proactive, works independently, brings forward new ideas, and continuously looks for ways to improve products, processes, and team performance through innovation, AI, and emerging technologies.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: (Additional duties may be assigned)

Product Design & Development

  • Design and develop innovative products for the Kitchen, Dining, and Entertaining categories from concept through production.
  • Create products that reflect the MacKenzie-Childs brand while balancing creativity, functionality, and commercial success.
  • Develop concepts using digital design tools, sketches, prototypes, and product specifications.
  • Prepare Manufacturing Development Packages (MDPs), technical documentation, and product instructions.
  • Partner with Product Development, Production, Quality, and vendors to ensure design intent is maintained throughout sampling and manufacturing.
  • Manage multiple projects, timelines, and priorities while participating in product reviews, testing, and design critiques.
  • Continuously build knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and product construction.

Digital Product Development

  • Create 3D models, CAD drawings, renderings, prototypes, and technical documentation to support product development.
  • Produce high-quality visual assets for presentations, vendor communication, and internal reviews.
  • Utilize 3D printing and scanning technologies to develop prototypes and maintain digital product assets.
  • Incorporate feedback to refine designs while ensuring manufacturability and production readiness.

Artwork & Design Asset Management

  • Create and maintain production-ready artwork, digital assets, and vendor files that support manufacturing.
  • Ensure artwork meets brand standards, color accuracy, and production requirements.
  • Organize and maintain design libraries, patterns, materials, and digital resources to improve efficiency and consistency.

CAD & Technical Documentation

  • Develop accurate 2D/3D CAD drawings, product specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Clearly communicate product dimensions, materials, construction, finishes, and assembly requirements to manufacturing partners.
  • Maintain organized, accurate documentation throughout the product development process.
  • Identify opportunities to improve products, workflows, and team processes.
  • Leverage AI, automation, and emerging technologies to increase efficiency and product quality.
  • Develop reusable templates, digital assets, and standardized processes that support long-term team success.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Product Development, Production, Quality, vendors, and other cross-functional teams throughout the design process.
  • Communicate design intent through presentations, renderings, CAD drawings, prototypes, and technical documentation.
  • Present ideas confidently, provide constructive feedback, and contribute to informed product and business decisions.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Product Design, Industrial Design, Furniture Design, Graphic Design, or a related field preferred.
  • 3–5 years of professional experience in product design, preferably within the kitchen, dining, entertaining, consumer products, home décor, or related industries.
  • Proven experience leading products through the complete product development process, from concept to production.
  • Experience with 3D modeling, visualization, prototyping, technical documentation, and cross-functional product development.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating creativity, product thinking, craftsmanship, commercial awareness, and execution.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment while managing multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail, visual judgment, technical accuracy, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Special Requirements:

Location : Aurora, NY

Travel : Travel is required to support product development activities, including factory visits, vendor meetings, product evaluations, training, and other business-related travel as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong product design skills, including form, color, materials, finishes, patterns, and visual presentation.
  • Ability to use market research, consumer insights, trends, and competitive analysis to create commercially successful products.
  • Proficiency in digital design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Rhino, Blender, Fusion 360, SolidWorks, SketchUp, AutoCAD, or similar tools. Experience with AI design tools is a plus.
  • Skilled in creating 3D models, renderings, CAD drawings, prototypes, presentations, and other visual materials to support product development.
  • Knowledge of prototyping, 3D printing, manufacturing processes, technical drawings, color management, and product development.
  • Strong communication, presentation, collaboration, and project management skills with the ability to clearly present ideas and work effectively across teams.
  • Self-motivated with strong critical thinking, organization, problem-solving, and time management skills. Able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while continuously seeking opportunities to improve products and processes.

Equipment Used:

Computer, printer, scanner, telephone, photocopier, calculator and various hand and power tools

Physical and Mental Requirements:

Ability to perform the physical activities associated with a design studio environment, including sitting, standing, lifting product samples, operating design equipment, and using computers for extended periods.

Environmental Conditions:

Work is performed in a typical office environment with occasional exposure to outside environmental conditions when photographing at outdoor locations.

Salary Range:$65,000-$75,000/annually
