Global Edge seeks qualified candidates who are highly organized, energetic, and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team for the non-exempt position of Electric Distribution Designer.
The position will produce electric distribution field designs, stake distribution facilities, develop project estimates, and prepare construction prints using electronic design/estimation software in accordance with client standards and specifications.
This position will report to the office and is not remote.

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
- Current Texas Driver’s License with an insurable driving record.
Required Duties & Responsibilities
- Professionally represent Global Edge and its clients when working with property owners, engineering firms, and construction teams.
- Design both overhead and underground electric distribution facilities.
- Recognize electric distribution framing and components from 4kV through 35kV.
- Develop designs for construction and reconstruction of overhead and underground distribution systems.
- Perform distribution line design calculations, including structure loading, guying, geometric angles, conductor sag, and unitized framing.
- Stay current with changing technologies, work planning, and electric distribution design methodologies.
- Mentor and train other staff members as needed.
- Maintain responsibility for the quality, accuracy, and timely completion of work.
- Manage multiple projects, design revisions, and changing priorities.
- Proficiently use Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and related software.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
- Travel when required, including overnight stays of up to five nights.
- Walk across various terrain and carry surveying, field, and staking equipment.
- Use appropriate tools to clear brush or perform shallow excavation when locating property identifiers for distribution design and staking.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- Associate’s degree or certificate in Electric Power Technology and/or 3+ years of electric distribution design and estimating experience preferred.
- Knowledge of electrical distribution system operation and maintenance.
- Familiarity with joint construction and electric utility best practices.
- Knowledge of electric distribution framing, construction practices, and components.
- Experience using surveying equipment and collecting geospatial points.
- Ability to interpret property boundaries, topographic surveys, as-built surveys, ROW staking, and construction staking.
- Experience using electronic design/estimation software to develop cost estimates, work instructions, and construction sketches.
- Experience researching property deeds, easements, ownership information, and property boundaries preferred.
- Familiarity with NESC requirements and their application to electric distribution line design.
- Familiarity with permitting requirements involving TxDOT, city, county, state, and federal agencies.
