Job summary

Texas Building Supply, a division of USLBM, is seeking a Designer to design and layout commercial and complex residential roof and floor systems for pricing and manufacturing. This role requires independent judgment and coordination with engineers and contractors.

Responsibilities include producing layouts, discussing design changes, presenting new jobs, and preparing material lists while maintaining accuracy in the in-house system and supporting shipping as needed.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree required in civil, architectural or design field.
• Bachelor's Degree preferred or equivalent experience.
• 3 years drafting experience in construction or building materials industry.

Texas Building Supply, a division of USLBM, serving the major markets in Texas with five building material yards and one window distribution facility across Austin, Houston, Dallas-Ft. Worth and San Antonio.

A Brief Overview

The Designer Salary designs and completes layouts of commercial and complex residential roof and floor systems for pricing and manufacturing. The position requires complete independent judgment and oversight of structural and architectural design.

What You Will Do

• Designs commercial and complex residential roof and floor systems and produces layout.
• Discusses changes and corrections with engineers, architects and contractors prior to and during construction.
• Presents, sells and follows-up on new jobs.
• Prepares roof truss and truss joist layouts.
• Coordinates, sells and does follow-ups of new jobs.
• Performs job-site inspections.
• Produces materials list.
• Determines special notes to append contracts.
• Resolves architectural and design discrepancies.
• Maintains computer system and performs routine upgrades to insure accurate and current application.
• Assists in the shipping department.

Education Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in civil, architectural or design related field required.
• Bachelor's Degree preferred.
• Applicable work experience may be substituted for education requirement.

Experience Qualifications

• 3 years of drafting experience in a construction or building materials-related industry required.

Skills And Abilities

• Proficient technical writing skills. Excellent salesmanship and communication skills.
• Special knowledge required—Reading and interpreting blueprints in an architectural related industry.
• Other—PC Literate with Microsoft Office products, AUTO CAD, and other design programs that facilitate learning in-house program with ease.
