Job Summary

Trillium Construction is hiring a Designer in Owensboro, KY for a direct‑hire opportunity. Our client specializes in custom metal fabrication for stairs, platforms, rails, and more. The role includes generating shop fabrication packages, isometric drawings, part design details, and nesting programs for automated equipment. The ideal candidate will interpret customer drawings and take field measurements to refine fabrication packages. The annual salary is $90,000, depending on experience.

Responsibilities
  • Use AutoDesk Inventor to generate detailed fabrication models and drawings
  • Create cut lists and nesting programs from the 3D model for shop fabrication
  • Develop bills of material and coordinate with procurement to order proper materials
  • Review customer drawings and design inputs, asking questions to develop a comprehensive design and model
  • Visit job sites to take field measurements before finalizing designs and drawings
  • Maintain proper revision control and communicate changes and updates to the shop and field
  • Apply building codes and regulations to ensure fabrications pass inspection
  • Assist with ordering materials, gathering estimates for larger projects, and determining vendor purchases
  • Provide buyers with required material delivery dates
  • Coordinate with shop manager to align shop schedule and material delivery schedules
  • Facilitate project coordination with shop and field teams
  • Participate in shop scheduling meetings to integrate design and material delivery times into the project timeline
  • Deliver completed shop fabrication packages and answer shop team questions
  • Build field installation packages where applicable and participate in project kickoff meetings with the field team
  • Serve as a resource to shop and field teams to address questions or obstacles
Core Competencies
  • Strong CAD proficiency, especially AutoDesk Inventor
  • Ability to interpret fabrication, structural, mechanical, and general contractor drawings
  • Solid understanding of fabrication methods, equipment, and production workflow
  • Skill in taking field measurements and verifying information at work sites
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Attention to detail balanced with efficient work practices for quality and efficiency
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (especially Excel) and general office software
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years using AutoDesk Inventor to create 3D models and detail drawings for metal fabrications, steel structures, or similar metal‑based projects
  • 3+ years drafting and design work with a metal fabricator, steel contractor, or similar construction industry
  • Experience programming CNC machines
  • High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and project portfolio management systems
