American Electric Power is seeking a skilled designer to prepare, develop, and coordinate maps, sketches, diagrams, and other engineering drawings for utility projects. You will assist the responsible engineer with documentation, cost estimates, QA/QC, and design deliverables, while guiding less experienced staff as needed.
You will use CAD software and MS Office to produce final drawings, perform calculations, review drawings, and prepare progress reports.

In this role you'll be responsible for the preparation, development and coordination of maps, sketches, diagrams, schematics and other engineering related drawings. Assist responsible engineer without direct supervision in the development documentation to support project decision making. Documentation of work activities to be performed include: preparation of study layouts, preparation of detailed design drawings, design basis development, cost estimating, peer review of all design deliverables, drawings QA/QC, peer review, as well as performing other design and engineering work as defined or directed. Furnish work direction and assist in training of employees in related work at an equal or lower level as directed.
Designer, pay based upon level and experience ($46,049-$93,189)
Associate degree in applied science (AAS) drafting and computer aided design (CAD) or in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering technology, or relevant equivalent experience and/or education.
Equivalent experience without AAS degree - high school graduate and four (4) years of experience in electric utility and/or related industrial drafting and/or computer aided drafting work.
