Job summary

Builders FirstSource seeks a CAD designer to read plans and generate CAD designs and placement drawings from submitted orders, working with the design manager. The role involves creating layout drawings, communicating with designers, and producing precise material and construction drawings.

The candidate should have an Associate’s degree or equivalent (or 6 months to 1 year related experience) and experience with PrimeCad, MS Word, MS Excel, and AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

• Reads plans and creates CAD designs and placement drawings from submitted information.
• Develops layout and design drawings from architectural drawings or sketches.
• Makes calls to designers or professionals to clarify information on blue line drawings.
• Generates placement plans identifying the location of individual designs.
• Reviews and summarizes field modifications; coordinates with engineers for repairs when needed.
• Analyzes data to ensure designs meet functional and performance specs.
• Confer with engineering staff to prepare design modifications.
• Analyzes plans/diagrams to specify materials and construction needs.
• Writes technical descriptions of material qualities and properties.
• Draws rough sketches or arranges finished drawings/photographs to illustrate materials or sequences.

Job description

PURPOSE

This individual is responsible for reading plans and creating designs and placement drawings prepared directly from information submitted on a company order form. Completes CAD work while working alongside the design manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develops layout and design drawings from architectural drawings or sketches provided to the company.
• Makes phone calls to building designers or professionals to obtain or clarify information shown on blue line drawings.
• Generate placement plans, identifying the location of the individual designs.
• May obtain information pertaining to products supplied by the company that have been field modified or damaged. The information is summarized and given to a professional engineer to evaluate and complete repair drawings when required.
• Analyzes technical data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
• Confers with technical and other engineering personnel and prepares design modifications as required.
• Analyzes plans and diagrams, or observes and makes notes on material processing, to determine material and material processing specifications, or specifications for construction activities.
• Writes technical descriptions specifying material qualities and properties.
• Draws rough sketches or arranges for finished drawings or photographs to illustrate specified materials or assembly sequence.
• Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience with PrimeCad, MS Word, MS Excel, and AutoCAD is required.
