Job summary

Builders FirstSource is seeking a Design Technician II in Woodland, WA. You will read plans, create designs and placement drawings, and perform CAD work alongside the design manager to finalize designs based on submitted order forms.

You will develop layouts from architectural drawings, contact designers for clarifications, and generate placement plans while ensuring designs meet functional specifications. You may coordinate with engineers for modifications as needed.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent required; six months to one year related experience considered.
• Experience with PrimeCad, MS Word, MS Excel, and AutoCAD is required.

Responsibilities

• Reads plans and creates designs and placement drawings from company orders.
• Develops layout and design drawings from architectural drawings or sketches provided to the company.
• Generates placement plans, identifying locations of individual designs.
• Communicates with designers to obtain or clarify information on blue line drawings.
• Analyzes technical data and reports to ensure design meets specifications.
• Confers with engineers to prepare design modifications as required.
• Observes material processing and determines material and processing specifications.

This individual is responsible for reading plans and creating designs and placement drawings prepared directly from information submitted on a company order form. Completes CAD work while working alongside the design manager.

• Develops layout and design drawings from architectural drawings or sketches provided to the company.
• Makes phone calls to building designers or professionals to obtain or clarify information shown on blue line drawings.
• Generate placement plans, identifying the location of the individual designs.
• May obtain information pertaining to products supplied by the company that have been field modified or damaged. The information is summarized and given to a professional engineer to evaluate and complete repair drawings when required.
• Analyzes technical data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
• Confers with technical and other engineering personnel and prepares design modifications as required.
• Analyzes plans and diagrams, or observes and makes notes on material processing, to determine material and material processing specifications, or specifications for construction activities.
• Writes technical descriptions specifying material qualities and properties.
• Draws rough sketches or arranges for finished drawings or photographs to illustrate specified materials or assembly sequence.

Minimum Requirements:

Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience with PrimeCad, MS Word, MS Excel, and AutoCAD is required.

Work Environment / Physical Activity:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and sit, and occasionally required to walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Subject to both typical office environment and outside locations with temperature and weather variations.
• The employee is regularly required to use close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less) and color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors).
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is subject to quiet conditions, such as those in a library or private office.

In addition to the base wage listed, team members are also eligible to earn an additional incentive subject to changes in plan design and documents and in accordance with applicable law. Eligibility and the amount of the incentive varies based on the terms and conditions of the locations’ active incentive plan for the respective year.
