Overview

Shape the future of cinematic storytelling: for creators, by creators. We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to join our team to help reimagine how premium video content is made using breakthrough multi-modal AI capabilities. Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios is developing an AI-powered creative suite that supports end-to-end production: ideation, storyboarding, character design, animation, scene composition, localization, and real-time iteration — built for professional creators and studios.

As a Design Manager, you’ll lead a team of Design Technologists to transform ambiguous concepts into high-fidelity interactive prototypes and creative concepts that clarify requirements, validate model capabilities, and accelerate delivery across the production pipeline. You’ll work with Product, Engineering, Science, and Studio leaders in a high-ownership, startup-like environment focused on creator delight and production-grade workflows. We’re especially interested in candidates who’ve built tools for animation and have experience in creative roles (e.g., technical artist, animator) and who are comfortable bridging traditional digital content creation pipelines and tools (e.g., Maya, Blender, Unreal) with modern AI-native creative solutions.

Base pay

$136,400.00/yr - $225,500.00/yr

Responsibilities

• Manage a team of designers and Design Technologists to prototype core animation workflows and produce interactive demos that make model capabilities tangible and inform product/UX/engineering decisions.
• Act as the voice of the creator, translating creative needs into technical solutions.
• Bridge AI and studio pipelines by exploring adapters and data flows between surfaces and DCC tools/pipeline formats.
• Ground prototypes in creator feedback, translating insights into design and technical changes that preserve expert control while enabling AI assistance.
• Collaborate across Product, Engineering, Science, and Studio Ops on requirements, roadmaps, and delivery; present at both design reviews and executive demos.
• Raise the bar for design and Design Technologist craft by documenting patterns, mentoring peers, and improving frameworks and practices.

A day in the life

Kick off with cross-functional syncs to align on goals for prototypes; run creator sessions to test rig-aware layouts; identify where AI assist helps and where animator-level control is essential; profile renderer/perf bottlenecks and plan localization experiences; pair with an SDE to move prototypes toward production and prepare concise demos for exec reviews.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• 6+ years of design experience
• 3+ years of leading design teams
• Experience managing teams
• Experience with a variety of design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, Visio, Axure, and Dreamweaver

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working cross-team and synthesizing feedback from product management, engineering, testing, and marketing
• Experience with agile/scrum
• Hands-on animation/studio pipeline experience; familiarity with rigging, retargeting, camera layout/blocking, compositing, and review workflows

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,400/year to $225,500/year.
