Job summary

ENGICON Construction Management, a Los Angeles-based firm, seeks an experienced professional to manage and coordinate district facilities design and capital projects. You will ensure plans align with the educational program, budget, environmental, and legal requirements.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in architecture or engineering and at least 8 years of full-time experience in facilities design or planning for public agencies, including educational facilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture or engineering (required).
  • Minimum 8 years of full-time paid professional experience managing facilities design or planning and coordination of capital projects.
  • 4 years of this experience must be with the design, planning and construction of educational facilities or similar public agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Manages, develops, and coordinates the district’s design process to ensure plans meet program, budget, environmental, and legal requirements.
  • Manages multiple projects involving engineering repair and critical repair with Architects, consultants, and District personnel for timely completion.
  • Oversees building design to ensure compliance with LAUSD standards and guidelines for educational facilities.
  • Works with Architects to identify and select architectural firms based on qualifications and performance.
  • Provides Architects with clear direction on goals, standards, site, schedule, and budget.
  • Establishes an efficient design review process to meet project goals and objectives.
  • Reviews design changes to keep projects within budget and monitors design status to report updates.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

  • Manages, develops, and coordinates the district’s design process for the A&E Services to ensure that plans are within functional program, budgetary, environmental, and legal requirements
  • Manages multiple projects, including engineering repair and critical repair, through interaction with Architects, consultants, and District personnel to ensure timely completion of these projects
  • Oversees the building design process to ensure compliance with LAUSD’s standards and guidelines for the district by working with design professionals and various District administrators to ensure that new and modernized structures meet both educational and building standards requirements
  • Establishes and follows a process to identify and select the architectural firm best suited for each project based on the firms’ qualifications and ability to meet performance standards
  • Provides Architects with clear and consistent direction regarding goals and objectives, standards, site, schedule, and budget for each project
  • Establishes and follows an effective and efficient design review process to ensure that the design meets the overall goals and objectives for each project
  • Provides maximum value for dollars budgeted and are appropriate and enduring to meet the functional needs of the district, the local community, and the environment
  • Reviews design changes to ensure project remains within budget
  • Monitors project planning and design status to report findings, recommendations, and updates
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Required Experience:
  • Minimum 8 years full time paid professional experience managing the facilities design, or the planning and coordination of capital projects that included the overall design, contract administration, cost estimating, and scheduling activities
  • 4 years of this experience must be with the design, planning and construction of educational
  • facilities or similar public agencies
Required Education:
  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in architecture or engineering
Preferred Licenses and Certificates:
  • A valid Certificate of Registration as an Architect by the California State Architectural Board or Professional Engineer by the State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors
  • Compensation: Salary between $160,000 - $185,000 per year. This is an exempt position. The payroll cycle is every two weeks.
  • Holidays: Eight (8) paid holidays per year.
  • Personal Time-Off (PTO): 120 Hours paid PTO for vacation and sick time. Accrual begins on the first day of employment. Additional PTO will follow the company policy and procedures.
  • License, Certificate, and Professional Development: The company will reimburse you for license and/or certificate renewal fees and industry-related education, with a passing grade of B or above, up to $1,000 per year.
  • Insurance: Participation in the company medical, dental, and vision insurance(s). The company provides paid medical and heavily discounted premiums for dental and vision coverage. We currently carry Kaiser and Anthem Blue Cross plan options.
  • 401(k) Plan: The company will make a matching contribution equal to 100% of your salary deferrals up to 3% of your compensation plus 50% of your next 2% salary deferrals. For example, if you defer 5%, your total match will equal 4% of your compensation.
