Job description

The Design Interface Manager owns the bi-directional flow between the design organization and the construction execution team. The role ensures design deliverables (drawings, specifications, IFC packages, RFIs, design changes) arrive in time and quality to support construction sequencing, and that construction-driven feedback (constructability, field changes, vendor data) is routed back into the design organization promptly and accurately. This single role consolidates what the org slides label as 'Design Interface Manager' and 'Design Integration Manager.'

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the design-to-construction interface across all packages (Enabling Works, PC21, PC27 modular ASRS, equipment, fit-out).
  • Maintain and enforce the design deliverables schedule; identify and escalate design slippage that threatens construction sequencing.
  • Chair the design-construction interface meetings; ensure RFIs, field changes, and vendor-data submissions are turned around within agreed SLAs.
  • Coordinate constructability reviews and value-engineering inputs from the field back to designers.
  • Manage drawing revision control, IFC release governance, and red-line / as-built feedback loops.
  • Interface with the BIM Coordinator/Technical Manager to ensure model coordination supports construction needs.
  • Coordinate design inputs from major equipment vendors (ASRS, SDD, OSD, ancillary) into the overall design package.
  • Track and report design-driven changes, scope creep, and impact on cost and schedule.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Process), or Construction Management.
  • 12+ years of experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, or other regulated-industry capital projects, with significant time in both design and field/construction roles.
  • Demonstrated track record managing design deliverables on large-scale projects (>$200M TIC).
  • Working knowledge of GMP facility design, cleanroom classifications, and process equipment integration.
  • Familiarity with BIM (Revit, Navisworks) and document control systems (Aconex, BIM 360, or similar).
