Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Functional Manager for the ECAD drafting team in the Hardware Mechanical department in Baltimore, MD. The role manages about 12 ECAD team members, balancing drafting professionals with union staff, and collaborates with program teams to meet schedules.

The manager oversees staffing plans, performance reviews, goal setting, process improvements, and hiring to balance workload demand. Strong communication and cross-organizational relationship skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S Government Secret Clearance prior to starting.
  • A current/active clearance is not required to be considered for the position, but a final clearance is required to start
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in ECAD design
  • 1 year of experience with people management, leading a technical drafting/design team, including workload management, performance reviews, and employee development/coaching.
  • 1 years of experience leading a high performing team (technical, Integrated Product Team Lead, Agile, or functional management)
  • 3 years of experience working with printed wiring board or circuit card assembly design, layout, drawings, or other technical documentation.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Get To Do

This position is for a Functional Manager of the ECAD drafting team supporting the Mission Systems Sector, in the Drafting Section of the Hardware Mechanical department in Baltimore, MD. Manager will have approximately 12 ECAD team members, split between drafting professionals and union personnel. Duties will include managing the day-to-day workload of the team, interfacing with the program teams to help meet schedule, performance reviews, work load forecasting, interfacing with external partners. This is a dual role manager position, involving technical responsibilities as well.

The manager is also responsible for staffing plans, staff performance evaluation, goal planning, process improvement, roadmap development, and hiring to manage workload demand and skill attrition. The manager will be able to lead through positive changes, as a champion for improvement and innovation. Employee engagement and development will be maintained through a combination of training, employee career coaching, mentoring, identification of stretch assignments, and engagement action planning. The manager will be able to meet performance goals with consideration for work/life balance of the staff. The candidate should have strong communications skills, and an ability to build and maintain relationships with direct staff, customers, and cross organization partners.

This position is contingent upon the ability to obtain an active U.S Government Secret Clearance or the successful transfer of an active US. Government Secret Clearance prior to start.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years of experience, master’s degree with 3 years of experience, Ph.D. with 1 years of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or related technical fields; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree

  • Experience supporting or leading projects and or proposals
