Job summary

Acuity Inc. is seeking an experienced Design Engineer to lead VAVE activities, drive product cost reductions, and manage electro-mechanical design and prototyping. You will coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely, within-budget delivery of new and improved products.

based in Decatur, GA on-site daily; requires collaboration with manufacturing and project teams across facilities. A Bachelor's in Engineering and 3–5 years of relevant experience are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Engineering degree required.
  • 3-5 years of applicable experience.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD and MS Office.
  • Proficient in LEAN Six Sigma methods (DMAIC, 5 WHY).
  • Strong verbal and written communication; cross-functional collaboration.

Job Summary

Responsible for product VAVE (Value Add Value Engineering), which includes product additions, product cost reductions, sustaining and resolution of field problems. Leads electro-mechanical product design and/or redesign, part assembly and detailed part drawings. Leads prototyping, testing, and assembly of samples. Leads various Product Design/development projects. Must be able to collaborate with all cross functional members of the design team.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
  • Involved in various aspects of the design process including, but not limited to, the development of part geometry, assembly design and drawing generation. Design work varies from new product development to product enhancements and cost reduction activities. Develops and distributes engineering data in the form of Engineering Change Notices, bills of material and parts tracking.
  • Interacts with manufacturing facilities to resolve part or assembly issues, deviation requests and bill of material errors.
  • Attends/Runs team and project meetings using the product delivery system (stage gate product development).
  • Initiates and assists with the development of concepts for products from Project Charters, and Specification Matrix provided by the Product Manager and other avenues such as reviewing competitor's samples and documentation, and free design techniques. These concepts must be agreeable with standard manufacturing methods utilized in the appropriate manufacturing facility.
  • Assist the team with any/all process improvement activities and related research.
  • Supports ABS/Lean Transformation as a Kaizen team participant and assist with the completion of post-Kaizen activity/assignments as appropriate.
  • Submits test requests and interacts with the testing group as necessary. Submits prototyping requests and interacts with the model shop to produce prototypes and assembly of samples. Reviews of functional specifications, project charters and competitors’ samples.
Skills And Minimum Experience Required
  • Bachelor of Engineering
  • 3-5 years of applicable experience required
  • Proficient use of 3D CAD, MS Office, etc.
  • Proficient in LEAN & Six Sigma methodology and practices such as standard work, time study, cause & effect, 5WHY analysis and other tools of DMAIC.
  • The ability to communicate verbally, in written form and through sketches, and engineering drawings.
  • Works well in cross-functional team environments.
  • Possess understanding of manufacturing methods such as sheet metal, machining, casting, stamping, extruding metals and plastics.
  • Leadership, to influence and enlist the cooperation of other team members to work towards the goal of completing and implementing new product development on time, and in budget.
  • Knowledge of testing processes (CSA and/or UL) very helpful.
  • Understand and adhere to the appropriate established industry and safety Standards

The range for this position is $83,300.00 to $112,000.00. Placement within this range may vary, depending on the applicant’s experience and geographic location.
