Job summary

Snap-On Tools is seeking a design engineer to develop new products and enhancements for automotive equipment and industrial tools. You will collaborate with engineers, prepare documentation, and test products for performance and quality.

The role requires a BS in Engineering or Mathematics, strong communication and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work with manufacturing teams. Travel may be required as part of project responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Mathematics with preference for 2 years’ experience in a design engineering environment.
• Proficient in the use of the computer for design and testing; Creo experience preferred.
• Up-to-date knowledge in mechanical design.
• Basic understanding of electronics.
• Able to work with others with minimal supervision.
• Excellent communications skills.
• Good time management and organizational skills.
• Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Demonstrate initiative.
• Practical experience in manufacturing processes and equipment.
• Project management and customer interface experience is a plus.
• Experience with outside approval agencies (UL/CSA/ALI etc.).
• Ability to travel.

Responsibilities

• Provide mechanical design and development of new products or product enhancements for automotive equipment and industrial tools; work with engineers from other disciplines and nationalities.
• Prepare thorough and accurate documentation for release to manufacturing and for internal product design records; maintain an engineering notebook to document activity for patent goals.
• Test and validate products to assure performance and quality.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and service personnel to resolve problems and improve manufacturability and serviceability of products.
• Develop or modify manufacturing processes.
• Work with other groups on value engineering initiatives to reduce product cost or improve performance of designs.
• Develop an understanding of the company’s products and their applications.
• Provide administrative support for Engineering Computer systems.
• Work with outside approval agencies on initial product approvals and maintenance of existing files.
