Job summary

Fluor is seeking an I&C Design Engineer IV to lead instrumentation and control system design across EPC projects. The role covers conceptual through detail design and construction support, promoting high-quality deliverables and technical excellence.

You will develop specifications, input to P&IDs, and manage instrument data, I/O lists, and control panel designs, while coordinating with electrical engineers and vendors to ensure robust plant integration.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and review specifications for project delivery including client specifications and vendor documentation.
  • Interpret and input P&ID representations for instrumentation and control signals.
  • Create Instrumentation Index, I/O lists, panel lists and datasheets.
  • Specify conduit, raceways, cables for signal wiring and interfaces.
  • Develop UL508A-compliant control panel drawings and integrate with PLC/DCS.
  • Review vendor submittals and coordinate with vendors to integrate mechanical packages.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver project milestones.
  • Contribute to network architecture diagrams for industrial facilities.
  • Produce material MTOs for discipline deliverables and participate in HazOps/LOPA.

Job Description

The I&C Design Engineer IV focuses on EPC project work from conceptual design through detail design and into construction support from an instrumentation and control system perspective. The purpose of this position is to provide the essential administrative processes, technical knowledge, and perform the work listed. This role has the responsibility to promote Fluor's competitiveness within the global marketplace by delivering quality services of unmatched value and technical competence. This position serves as an Area Lead or Lead on assigned projects or performs moderately complex engineering assignments, evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques to a broad set of complex assignments.

  • Develop and review specifications for project delivery including client specifications and vendor documentation.

  • Working knowledge of electrical codes and standards and common industrial practices for common industrial EPC projects.

  • Be able to interpret and provide input to the development of P&ID's and the representation of the instrumentation and control signals therein.

  • Have technical understanding of PLC and DCS control systems sufficient to create control panel drawings, I/O card wiring diagrams, develop DCS/PLC interface circuits and/or assist electrical engineers in the development of motor elementaries.

  • Develop an Instrumentation Index, I/O list, panel lists and instrumentation datasheets.

  • Specification, integration and procurement of instrumentation common across industrial processes such as pressure transmitters, flowmeters, control valves, level transmitters, pressure gauges, specialty analyzers, solenoids, hydraulic and instrument air tubing, etc.

  • Work with electrical engineers to develop motor elementaries.

  • Cable selection and termination schedules, and cable schedule development for signal cables, in addition to specifying and developing schedule for ethernet and fiber optic cables for control system connectivity to various interfaces and third-party packages.

  • Review and develop control panels designs and drawings compliant to UL508A with equipment such as touch screen HMI’s, brick controllers, pushbuttons, pilot lights, terminal blocks, circuit breakers, relays, power supplies and other din rail mounted equipment.

  • Have a high-level understanding of PLC/DCS programming, graphics design, alarm rationalization and programming standard libraries for scoping and definitions.

  • Working understanding and design of relay circuits for safety and motor controls.

  • Detail design development and specification of junction boxes and marshalling panels.

  • Specify conduit and raceway for common instrumentation signals wiring and align with the electrical raceway requirements.

  • Review vendor submittals and be able to work with vendors to integrate mechanical packages into the overall plant control system.

  • Proactively align with multidisciplinary teams to further project deliverables.

  • Work with automation and network SME’s to develop an overall network architecture diagram of industrial facilities.

  • Utilize standard company instrumentation installation details and be able to recognize and develop custom instrumentation installation details if required.

  • Produce material MTO’s specific to discipline deliverables in an ongoing project.

  • Experience in both conceptual design and detail design in an EPCM environment.

  • Participate in Hazops, LOPAs and working familiarity with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).

  • Other related duties may be assigned
