Job summary

UCT in Austin, TX is seeking a Design Engineer II- Mechanical to join a cross-functional team and advance product development from concept to drawings. You will generate layouts and detailed drawings, apply GD&T, and support manufacturing handoffs.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of design experience using SolidWorks and Pro/Engineer, proficiency in Creo and AutoCAD, and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. On-site role with opportunities to impact multiple programs.

UCT is looking for a talented Design Engineer II- Mechanical to join us in Austin, TX!

Review and understand product application and design on a cross functional project team. Responsible for organizing low complexity activities for the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of engineering projects. Assignments require the investigation of a limited number of variables and supervisory assistance is provided on unusual problems. May supervise or coordinate the work of designers and other technical support personnel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Performs design engineering work from concept stage to creation of drawings needed to manufacture the parts.
• Deep understanding of drawing standards, formatting, and dimensioning included basic GD&T.
• Identifies material, process, and other pertinent specifications needed for the design, drafting & manufacturing of mechanical components.
• Prepares layouts/models based on design specifications and create detailed drawings of parts based on the layout/model.
• Knowledge of DfX methodologies and practices.
• Optimize BOM for manufacturability.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Generates accurate/complete/clear manufacturing drawings of company products from 3-D CAD models using Creo and SolidWorks.
• Ability to perform designs using AutoCAD.
• Analyzes system design from concept through detailing and release for production.
• Develops assembly drawings and Bills of Material from assembly models.
• Calculates and verifies that the design meets the specifications.

Educational/Certification Requirement:

• Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.

Experience Requirement:

Work Experience:

• 5+ year experience in component and system design utilizing Solidworks and ProEngineer.
