Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking a Design Engineer II to perform complex calculations, drawings and specifications related to HVAC, plumbing and other systems.

The role involves modeling, equipment sizing, on-site surveys, and collaboration with project teams to ensure code compliance and quality design. A four-year engineering degree and 3+ years of experience are expected.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in Engineering or related field.
• PE License preferred.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience.
• Basic knowledge of applicable systems design (fire suppression, HVAC, plumbing, electrical).
• Ability to read construction documents.
• Strong verbal and written technical communication skills.
• Strong computer skills including CADD and Microsoft Office (Excel).

Responsibilities

• Performs complex modeling, drawings and specifications for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection or other systems.
• Performs complex calculations for a project (heating/cooling loads, equipment sizing, friction loss, hydraulic calculations).
• Prepares preliminary redline design layouts for estimating.
• May be responsible for a single phase of a project.
• Provides guidance to less experienced engineers.
• Conducts on-site field surveys to collect or deliver design data.
• Assists in writing technical narratives and responses to RFIs.
• Responsible for Code compliance.

• Performs more complex calculations for a project, such as heating/cooling loads, equipment selection and sizing, friction loss calculations, hydraulic calculations, etc.
