Job summary

Sargent Aerospace & Defense is seeking a Design Engineer I to work on hydraulic valves and mechanisms. You will analyze, design, and document parts, applying GD&T, FEA, and 3D CAD tools to meet customer specs.

Collaborate with engineering teams to develop and qualify new designs, support testing, and assist MRB with disposition of non-conforming products. This entry-level role emphasizes safety, accuracy, and timely delivery within aerospace programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA); ANSYS preferred.
• Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Proficient in 3D modeling software (Pro/Engineer or CREO preferred).
• Excellent writing, presentation, communication, and organizational skills.
• Excellent MS Office skills.
• Knowledge of Mathcad, MATLAB, and/or LabVIEW software.
• Self-starter with urgency in meeting customer expectations.
• Ability to investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex technical problems and communicate results clearly.
• Reliability, attendance, and punctuality are essential.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety is the foundation of daily work through vigilance and accountability.
• Perform engineering analysis (stress, FEA, fatigue) to support new product development or sustain production of existing designs.
• Create new designs that meet customer requirements and uphold engineering principles.
• Apply and optimize GD&T to facilitate inspection and manufacturing.
• Write test plans and reports to demonstrate compliance with customer specifications.
• Interact with customers to clarify design intent and technical requirements.
• Maintain accurate project records, including design and test data, customer specifications, directives, etc.
• Direct designers and drafters in concept development and optimization to meet deadlines.
• Provide engineering assistance on development and qualification test programs.
• Assist on the MRB to disposition non-conforming products.
