Job summary

Vermeer Corporation in Iowa seeks an engineer to research, design, build, and test new equipment integral to feeding people and building infrastructure. You will design equipment using CAD tools in a hands-on team setting on on-site Vermeer campuses.

The role requires a four-year engineering degree and ability to analyze data, identify root causes, and develop robust designs while applying FEA, hydraulics, electronics, and engine system knowledge. Occasional travel is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's level education in Mechanical, Industrial, Agriculture or Electrical Engineering.
• Ability to identify root causes of manufactured or purchased component failures.
• Knowledge in FEA, hydraulics, electronics, engine systems, statistics, strength of materials, durability and serviceability of products.
• Ability to create robust design, identify changes early in the design progress and to recognize design commonality.
• Ability to operate simple mechanics tools and wrenches, assembly hand tools, drill press, lathe, band saw and assembly power tools.
• Ability to effectively manage time and resources to meet the needs and schedules of internal customers and respond immediately to production questions and crisis with solutions.
• Ability to understand material strengths, fatigue strength, and manufacturability to ensure that the right configuration and materials are utilized.
• Ability to develop a test plan, submit a detailed corporate test request, be present during execution of the test, and review/process test data, providing meaningful results.

Responsibilities

• Understand engineering principles to analyze data and/or develop CAD models to optimize design opportunities.
• Apply technical knowledge and engineering principles to invent, design, document, build and test new solutions for assigned industry using CAD tools.
• Use SolidWorks, PDMWorks, ECN tools and other design tools to produce prototype parts.
• Work in a team environment to meet team goals and metrics.
• Test design changes to improve machine performance and reliability.
• Build relationships to successfully execute on projects and to grow in knowledge of the Vermeer engineering functions.
