SOLV Energy, Inc. is seeking a Design Engineer I, BESS to create preliminary battery energy storage system designs and review other designs for accuracy. The role involves collaboration across engineering disciplines and the preparation of calculations and technical documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Current EIT certification or on track to obtain it.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook.
• Basic understanding of electrical engineering principles including wire sizing and current calculations.
• Familiarity with building codes, engineering principles and industry practices.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or in a team.
• Commitment to safety and sense of urgency.

Responsibilities

• BESS design support including preliminary layouts and single line diagrams.
• CAD drafting of electrical drawings in AutoCAD.
• Research on electrical codes/standards such as NEC and NFPA 855.
• Collaborate in design reviews with multiple engineering disciplines.
• Prepare technical reports, calculations and maintain revision history.

Job Description Summary

The Design Engineer I, BESS is responsible for creating preliminary BESS designs and for reviewing BESS designs created by others. This role can be hybrid, with regular in-office presence in San Diego, CA, Edison, NJ, Bend, OR or fully remote. Specific location details and expectations will be discussed during the interview process.

Position Responsibilities and Duties

• BESS Design Support
  • Create preliminary BESS layouts and single line diagrams using templates
  • Perform review of bid drawings to internal standards and document differences
  • Review RFPs and evaluate against our standard designs. Documents and communicate unique specifications to necessary parties.
  • Works with Business Development and Estimating to ensure an appropriate response is made to an RFP
  • Performs basic electrical engineering calculations to support design
• CAD Drafting
  • Create and modify electrical engineering drawings using AutoCAD.
• Code and Regulatory Research
  • Research and stay current on all applicable electrical codes/standards, including NEC and NFPA 855
• Project Collaboration
  • Participate in design reviews and collaborate effectively with other engineering disciplines and project teams.
• Documentation and Reporting
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports, calculations, and specifications.
  • Maintenance of accurate project documentation, including design revision/iteration history.

Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• EIT (Engineer in Training) certification or on track to obtain it.
• Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD, Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook
• Basic understanding of electrical engineering principles, including wire sizing, current calculations
• Basic knowledge of applicable building codes, engineering principles, and industry best practices
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
• Commitment to safety
• Strong sense of urgency
