Job summary

SOLV Energy, Inc. is seeking a Design Engineer I, BESS in a hybrid role with in-office presence in San Diego, CA, Edison, NJ, Bend, OR, or fully remote.

You will create preliminary BESS designs, review others’ designs, and perform basic electrical calculations, while collaborating with BD and Estimating on RFP responses. The ideal candidate holds a EE degree, is on track for or has an EIT, and is proficient in AutoCAD, Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook, with a strong attention to detail and safety

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• EIT certification or on track to obtain it.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook.
• Basic understanding of electrical engineering concepts and calculations.
• Knowledge of building codes and industry best practices.
• Strong attention to detail and teamwork.
• Commitment to safety and urgency.

Responsibilities

• BESS Design Support: create preliminary BESS layouts and single-line diagrams.
• CAD Drafting: create and modify electrical drawings in AutoCAD.
• Code & Regulatory Research: NEC/NFPA 855 compliance checks.
• Project Collaboration: participate in design reviews with cross-functional teams.
• Documentation & Reporting: prepare technical reports and maintain revision history.

Job Description Summary:

The Design Engineer I, BESS is responsible for creating preliminary BESS designs and for reviewing BESS designs created by others.

This role can be hybrid, with regular in-office presence in San Diego, CA, Edison, NJ, Bend, OR or fully remote. Specific location details and expectations will be discussed during the interview process.

Position Responsibilities and Duties:

• BESS Design Support

  • Create preliminary BESS layouts and single line diagrams using templates
  • Perform review of bid drawings to internal standards and document differences
  • Review RFPs and evaluate against our standard designs. Documents and communicate unique specifications to necessary parties.
  • Works with Business Development and Estimating to ensure an appropriate response is made to an RFP
  • Performs basic electrical engineering calculations to support design

• CAD Drafting

  • Create and modify electrical engineering drawings using AutoCAD.

• Code and Regulatory Research

  • Research and stay current on all applicable electrical codes/standards, including NEC and NFPA 855

• Project Collaboration

  • Participate in design reviews and collaborate effectively with other engineering disciplines and project teams.

• Documentation and Reporting

  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports, calculations, and specifications.
  • Maintenance of accurate project documentation, including design revision/iteration history.

Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• EIT (Engineer in Training) certification or on track to obtain it.
• Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD, Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook
• Basic understanding of electrical engineering principles, including wire sizing, current calculations
• Basic knowledge of applicable building codes, engineering principles, and industry best practices
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
• Commitment to safety
• Strong sense of urgency
