Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a Design Engineer I, BESS to create preliminary BESS layouts and single line diagrams while reviewing designs for accuracy and compliance.

The role offers hybrid work with in-office presence in San Diego, CA; Edison, NJ; Bend, OR or fully remote. You will collaborate with BD and Estimating, perform basic electrical calculations, and support design reviews across multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• EIT certification or on track to obtain it.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook.
• Basic understanding of electrical engineering principles, including wire sizing, current calculations.
• Basic knowledge of building codes, engineering principles, and industry best practices.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
• Commitment to safety
• Strong sense of urgency

Responsibilities

• Create preliminary BESS layouts and single line diagrams using templates.
• Perform review of bid drawings to internal standards and document differences.
• Review RFPs and evaluate against our standard designs. Documents and communicate unique specifications to necessary parties.
• Work with Business Development and Estimating to ensure an appropriate response to an RFP.
• Performs basic electrical engineering calculations to support design.
• Create and modify electrical engineering drawings using AutoCAD.
• Research and stay current on all applicable electrical codes/standards, including NEC and NFPA 855.
• Participate in design reviews and collaborate effectively with other engineering disciplines and project teams.
• Assist in the preparation of technical reports, calculations, and specifications; maintenance of design revision history.

The Design Engineer I, BESS is responsible for creating preliminary BESS designs and for reviewing BESS designs created by others.

This role can be hybrid, with regular in-office presence in San Diego, CA, Edison, NJ, Bend, OR or fully remote. Specific location details and expectations will be discussed during the interview process.

Position Responsibilities and Duties:

• BESS Design Support
  • Create preliminary BESS layouts and single line diagrams using templates
  • Perform review of bid drawings to internal standards and document differences
  • Review RFPs and evaluate against our standard designs. Documents and communicate unique specifications to necessary parties.
  • Works with Business Development and Estimating to ensure an appropriate response is made to an RFP
  • Performs basic electrical engineering calculations to support design
• CAD Drafting
  • Create and modify electrical engineering drawings using AutoCAD.
• Code and Regulatory Research
  • Research and stay current on all applicable electrical codes/standards, including NEC and NFPA 855
• Project Collaboration
  • Participate in design reviews and collaborate effectively with other engineering disciplines and project teams.
• Documentation and Reporting
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports, calculations, and specifications.
  • Maintenance of accurate project documentation, including design revision/iteration history.

Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• EIT (Engineer in Training) certification or on track to obtain it.
• Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD, Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook
• Basic understanding of electrical engineering principles, including wire sizing, current calculations
• Basic knowledge of applicable building codes, engineering principles, and industry best practices
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
• Commitment to safety
• Strong sense of urgency
