Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector seeks a Design Engineer – Level 2 in Promontory, UT to contribute to solid rocket motor nozzle design and development. You will balance technical performance, cost, and schedule while collaborating with cross-functional teams on complex nozzle projects.

The role requires a STEM degree with related experience or a higher degree, strong communication skills, and the ability to work in a dynamic, mission-critical environment on a 9/80 schedule.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (STEM) with 2 years of professional experience OR Master’s degree (STEM) with 0 years of professional experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret clearance.
  • Skills in 3D modeling, mechanical drawings, and GD&T.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design, test, and production of a solid rocket motor nozzle.
  • Modify drawings and specifications for complex nozzle designs.
  • Participate in trade studies.
  • Facilitate design changes.
  • Interact with development teams (Manufacturing, Quality, Safety, Analysis, Materials, and Test).
  • Develop and present technical content for design reviews with internal and external customers.
  • Participate in postfire evaluations of nozzle hardware.

As a Design Engineer – Level 2 located in Promontory, UT, you’ll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one.

The Design Engineer 2 will support a team responsible for the design of solid rocket motor nozzles and developing innovative solutions that effectively balance technical performance, cost, and schedule requirements.

This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (STEM) with 2 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree (STEM) with 0 years of professional experience.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance
  • Skills in 3D modeling, mechanical drawings, and GD&T (NX software)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Understanding of mechanical design, structural/thermal analysis and material behavior
  • Understanding of manufacturing and inspection processes
  • Design or analysis experience with bolted joints, metal, composite, and bonded assemblies
  • Tolerance analysis

Primary Level Salary Range: $79,300.00 - $118,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
