Job summary

Miller Industries in Tennessee is seeking a Design Engineer to create, develop, and maintain mobile structural designs for hydraulically or pneumatically actuated systems, balancing customer requirements with manufacturability, quality, performance, and cost.

You will lead design projects, collaborate across functions, use PTC Creo/Windchill, perform analyses, document changes, and travel as needed to support domestic or international opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or 10+ years of relevant engineering experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience with 3D CAD design software; experience with PTC Creo and Windchill is preferred.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to create accurate , detailed engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Strong organization and attention to detail, with the ability to manage priorities and complete work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate across functions.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a project team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop products and design solutions that meet customer requirements while balancing manufacturing capability, quality, performance, and cost.
  • Create and maintain mobile structural designs, including detailed drawing packages for parts and assemblies.
  • Plan, execute, and support design projects from concept through implementation within a project team structure.
  • Use engineering design and business software, including PTC Creo, Windchill, Microsoft Office, and other applicable tools.
  • Evaluate systems and products through engineering research, analysis, validation, and testing.
  • Develop testing methods; test finished products and system capabilities; and confirm fabrication, assembly, and installation processes.
  • Make and document design changes using the Windchill Engineering Change Process.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Sales, Accounting, Customer Service, Operations, vendors, and customers to resolve design issues and implement changes.
  • Provide timely technical support, solve project‑related problems, answer questions, and communicate project status to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Accurately document work and log time spent on assigned projects.
  • Perform and document structural analysis using finite element analysis or hand‑calculation methods, as assigned.
  • Design, instrument, perform, and report on structural testing, as assigned.
  • Support hydraulic, pneumatic, and high‑level electrical component or system design and troubleshooting, as assigned.
  • Travel domestically or internationally on an occasional basis, as business needs require.

Summary

The Design Engineer creates, develops, and maintains mobile structural designs that may be hydraulically or pneumatically actuated and mechanically or electrically controlled. The role develops practical engineering solutions that meet customer requirements while balancing manufacturability, quality, performance, and cost. Depending on experience, the engineer will independently manage design projects of varying size and complexity and may provide technical leadership, subject‑matter expertise , and direction to other engineers and cross‑functional partners.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
