Job summary

Mellott Manufacturing Co. seeks an experienced design engineer to coordinate and lead projects from contract to finished product. The role focuses on mechanical/structural design of conveyors, layout drawings, and shop drawing checks.

You will collaborate with shop, field, and control engineers while ensuring safety and manufacturability in all designs. Office-based with potential shop interaction in Kentucky.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design or Mechanical Engineering required.
  • 3-5 years hands-on, verifiable experience may substitute for formal education.
  • Proficiency with Solid Edge and CAD software; strong Microsoft Office skills.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all activities to bring project from contract to finished product, including engineering, shop, field, shipping, and installation.
  • Mechanical/Structural design of conveyor systems, primarily log and lumber handling equipment.
  • Produce General Arrangement (Layout) drawings for multiple integrated systems.
  • Check shop drawings for accuracy, consistency of design and manufacturability.
  • Detail parts as needed and coordinate with control engineers for proper operation of equipment.
  • Ensure safety through conscientious design.

Job description

Coordination of all activities to bring project from signed contract to finished product, which includes the coordination of engineering, shop, field, shipping, and installation. Proficiency with Solid Edge, CAD software and Microsoft Office applications will greatly assist in performing this job properly.

  • Mechanical / Structural Design of Conveyor Systems. Primarily log and lumber handling equipment.
  • General Arrangement (Layout) Drawings for Multiple Integrated Systems
  • Check Shop Drawings for Accuracy, Consistency of Design and Manufacturability
  • Detailing of Parts as Needed
  • Coordinate with control engineers for proper operation of equipment
  • Ensure Safety Through Conscientious Design
Secondary Duties:
  • Maintain a clean work space
  • Collaborate with other associates across different departments
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficiency with primarily Solid Edge and CAD Software
  • Demonstrated Knowledge of industrial components such as gearboxes, bearings, roller chain, structural steel shapes, etc.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Design or Mechanical Engineering

Practical industry experience would be considered. 3-5 years of hands-on, verifiable, to substitute for formal education requirements.

Physical Requirements:

Individual must be prepared for:

Sitting - 80% of shift

Standing - 10% of shift

Walking - 10% of shift

Work will primarily occur in the office environment. Personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses, earplugs/muffs, and steel toe boots, are required in the fabrication shop.
