Job summary

MD&A in Houston seeks a Mechanical Drafter to deliver 3D SolidWorks models and 2D Drawings for components and assemblies supporting manufacturing projects.

You will develop models from measurements, create SharePoint drawings, and maintain BOMs and revision controls within the ERP system while collaborating across Design, Development, and Quality teams.

Qualifications

• AS Mechanical Drafting or Engineering degree or equivalent experience.
• 4+ Years’ experience in Industrial / Aerospace Gas Turbine manufacturing facility.
• 4+ years’ experience in Solidworks and AutoCAD programs.
• Experience in GD&T preferred. Certification in GD&T preferred.
• 4+ years’ experience in advanced joining technology including welding and brazing nickel cobalt, and chrome-based alloys.
• Reading engineering drawings, ANSI Y14.5.
• ISO 9000/QS 9000 knowledge preferred; training provided.

Responsibilities

• Create 3D SolidWorks models based on reverse-engineering data and measurements.
• Develop 2D drawings in SharePoint from SolidWorks models.
• Ensure correct dimensioning and tolerancing for manufacturing and inspection.
• Develop and maintain tooling and fixturing models and drawings with Design/Development Engineering.
• Create and maintain Bill of Materials and Revision Control in the ERP system.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing to resolve production issues and support process validation.
• Review drawings for accuracy and interface with resources to improve products.
• Develop routings, methods and work instructions for new products.

Description

The primary purpose of the position is to provide 3D Models and 2D Prints of Component and Assembly Drawings to support the Manufacturing Engineering Projects at MD&A. The position requires Solid works and AutoCAD skills as well as a strong knowledge of Fixturing design & GD&T to prepare manufacturing drawings.

Integration & Initial Support:

The successful candidate will be able to shadow our seasoned expert with more than 30 years of experience in this role. The successful candidate should be able to carry out independent functions and responsibilities of this role within a 1-year. Training courses necessary to complete the role will be provided.

Core Functions/Execution:

• Component and Assembly Drafting
• Develop 3D Solid works Models based on reverse-engineering data and measurements taken.
• Create and maintain the 2D Drawings in SharePoint from the Solid works Models created.
• Collaborate with Design and Development Engineering and Quality to modify and maintain appropriate dimensioning and tolerancing criteria to meet manufacturing and quality inspection needs.
• Generate and maintain part numbers from numbering system when new components, assemblies or fixtures are created
• Tooling and Fixturing
• Develop and maintain tooling and fixturing models and drawings as needed with the collaboration of Design/Development Engineering
• Contribute to the development and resolution of ECR’s.
• Works closely with Manufacturing to resolve technical production issues
• Supports validation of manufacturing processes being developed
• Program Management

• Develop advanced engineering techniques for new products and repair processes
• Reviews drawings for accuracy and interfaces with resources to correct and improve products
• Support development of routings, methods and detailed work instructions for new products
• Develop/create Bill of Materials and Revision Control in the ERP System

• Maintain Bill of Materials and Revision Control in the ERP System
• Responsible to assure products meet all customer functional requirements
• Works closely with Manufacturing to resolve technical production issues
• Supports validation of manufacturing processes being developed
• Create Development First Article Books for product qualification (5%)
• Any Special Projects as assigned

Requirements

• AS Mechanical Drafting or Engineering degree or equivalent experience
• 4+ Years’ experience in Industrial / Aerospace Gas Turbine manufacturing facility
• 4+ years’ experience in Solidworks and AutoCAD programs
• Experience in GD&T preferred. Candidates with certification in GD&T will be preferred.
• 4+ years’ experience in advanced joining technology including welding and brazing nickel Cobalt, and chrome-based alloys
• Functional experience in advanced manufacturing development of precision, metal machining and fabrication
• Functional experience in reading engineering drawings, specifically ANSI Y14.5
• Seasoned knowledge & background in ISO 9000/ QS 9000 – preferred, but training will be provided to successful candidates to fulfill this requirement.
