Job summary

Liberty Personnel Services, Inc. is seeking a Design Engineer to design, develop, and improve products, collaborating with Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, Quality and customers throughout the product development process.

Qualifications

  • Engineering Bachelor's degree or related field preferred.
  • Relevant experience may substitute for degree.
  • 2-year technical degree with 5+ years experience may be considered.
  • 1–5 years of related engineering or product development experience preferred.
  • Experience with CAD and product design.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Knowledge of GD&T, DFA, DFMEA, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes relevant to design.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to lead or participate in cross-functional teams.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and results-oriented.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop new components, assemblies, and products using CAD.
  • Refine existing products and develop innovative solutions based on customer and market needs.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and critical characteristics.
  • Ensure products are designed and built to approved specifications, tolerances, safety requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams during product design, development, testing, validation, and launch.
  • Assist Manufacturing Engineering with process, assembly, and production problem solving.
  • Investigate and manage new product development projects and product updates.
  • Develop and maintain product specifications and engineering documentation.
  • Create and maintain Design Verification Plans & Reports (DVP&R) based on DFMEA, product specifications, customer requirements, testing requirements, and applicable industry/regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate with internal and external testing laboratories and incorporate test results into project documentation.
  • Review technical reports and recommend design changes or improvements.
  • Support Sales with technical presentations and customer meetings when needed.
  • Work with other departments to identify and implement product improvements and engineering changes.
  • Communicate project status, issues, risks, and recommendations to management and other departments.
  • Stay current with new technologies, materials, processes, and industry trends.
  • Follow all company safety, quality, and 6S requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

We are looking for a Design Engineer to join our team and play a key role in designing, developing, and improving products that meet customer and business requirements.   • Candidates with a non-technical four-year degree and relevant experience may also be considered.
  • Two-year technical degree/certificate with a minimum of five years of related experience may be considered.
  • 1–5 years of related engineering or product development experience preferred.
  • Experience with CAD systems and product design.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T/GDT, Design for Assembly (DFA), DFMEA, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and technical requirements related to product design.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a team.
  • Ability to lead or participate in cross-functional teams.
  • Highly motivated, self-directed, and results-oriented.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic work environment.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Primarily a climate-controlled work environment.
  • Approximately 80% of the workday is spent sitting and working at a computer.
  • Frequent computer and data-entry activities.
  • Ability to lift less than 35 lbs.
  • Some travel may be required for customer visits, conferences, trade shows, testing, or other business activities.
