Avtron Power Solutions in Cleveland, OH is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design and develop electrical test equipment based on customer requirements, develop standard products and participate in cost reduction.

Essential duties include interpreting quotes, delivering costed technical descriptions, designing for best cost/performance, documenting with calculations and prototypes, preparing complete design packages and BOMs, and supporting drafting.

Qualifications

  • BSME degree or equivalent is required.
  • 5–7 years of mechanical design experience.
  • Experience with mechanical equipment and fixtures.
  • Knowledge of electrical standards.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret the RFQ and provide detailed technical description and cost.
  • Design and develop cost/performance optimized products.
  • Support and document designs by calculations and prototyping.
  • Deliver complete design packages to drafting with BOM.
  • Analyze alternatives and select the optimal solution.
  • Work with drafting to create drawings and assemblies per standards.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing electrical test equipment based on customer requirements. This role will develop standard products based on standard component selection and standard design processes while participating in continuous product standardization and cost reduction.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Functions:

  • Interpret the customer request for quote and provide detailed technical description and cost
  • Design and develop the best cost\performance product that meets or exceeds customer requirements
  • Support and document design by calculations, prototyping
  • Provide on time, complete and accurate design package to the drafting department
  • Analyze alternate solutions to a problem and select the optimal solution
  • Work with drafting department to create detail design package consisting of schematics and Bill of Material based on standard parts and assembly drawings.
  • Work within the guidelines of the Avtron Design and Project Management Processes
  • Assume additional responsibilities as assigned

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Initiate integration and process improvement opportunities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5-7 years of experience in mechanical product or process design
  • Strong technical skills
  • Experience in design and development of mechanical equipment and fixtures
  • Knowledgeable in the electrical standards

EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Education:

  • BSME degree or equivalent is required

  • Solid organizational skills

Experience

  • Certification in a mechanical design field is desirable 5+ years in product support, product applications or related experience
  • Experience with AutoCad or Inventor software a plus

  • Experience with Windows software, especially Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Microsoft Project.
