Job summary

The New York Post seeks a creative Design Editor to shape visuals across digital, social and print. The role is on-site, Tuesday–Saturday, 6pm–2am, reporting into the Design Team and collaborating with editors to turn stories into bold, engaging designs.

You will design interactive infographics, graphics and typographic layouts, stay ahead of design trends, and ensure visuals align with the Post’s signature brand while meeting tight deadlines across platforms.

Job Description: The New York Post provides readers with the best in News, Sports, Pop Culture and Entertainment – with signature wit, irreverence and authority averaging 90 million unique viewers a month. Over the past 225 years, The Post has evolved into a multi-platform media company spanning print, digital, video, audio, app, television and commerce. The New York Post is looking for a creative, versatile Design Editor (Tuesday-Saturday, 6pm-2am) to join our fast-paced newsroom. If you have a passion for bold visuals, a digital-first mindset, and the skills to turn ideas into eye-catching designs, this role is for you. As a key member of our Design Team, you’ll help bring stories to life across digital and social platforms, as well as print.

Responsibilities
  • Design compelling digital visuals including interactive infographics, illustrations, editorial print features, animations for online and social, composites and maps.
  • Stay ahead of design trends, tools, and techniques to keep our visuals fresh, relevant and competitive.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Design Editor and Sr. Design Editors to develop innovative graphic concepts that align with the Post’s bold brand identity.
  • Work closely with editorial teams to integrate text and visuals seamlessly, enhancing storytelling whether digitally or in print.
  • Generate fresh ideas for visual storytelling, with a strong focus on engaging digital content.
  • Prioritize multiple projects efficiently in a deadline-driven environment.
Requirements
  • Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects) and design tools such as Flourish and MapCreator.
  • A digital-first approach with ability to create designs for web, mobile, and social platforms; Solid foundation in print design techniques is also necessary.
  • Exceptional sense of typography, layout, and visual and information hierarchy.
  • Create charts and visualizations from complex datasets such as financial reports, press releases etc and distill information for general audiences.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically under tight deadlines.
  • Passion for news, sports, viral content, pop culture, and emerging digital trends.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • A portfolio showcasing a range of design work, especially digital projects.
  • Willingness to work on weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Basic coding knowledge (HTML, CSS, JAVA)

Note: The New York Post adheres to an on-site work model. This role will be expected to report into the office 5 days per week.

Base Pay Range: $65,000 - $85,000. We’re committed to offering competitive and flexible compensation to attract top talent. This pay range reflects our good faith estimate for the role and may vary based on a candidate’s experience, skills, location, and other relevant factors. For bonus-eligible roles, targets are determined based on multiple considerations, including market benchmarks and individual contributions.
