Job summary

Fermilab in Batavia, IL seeks a Design Drafter to prepare and store components, assembly models, and drawings using CAD and related software, ensuring compliance with professional standards.

The role includes creating schematics, 3D models, supporting procurement and fabrication, field investigations, and maintaining design archives, while collaborating with engineers and vendors to resolve issues and follow EH&S guidelines.

Qualifications

• Intermediate knowledge of CAD systems and ability to produce moderately complex mechanical, electrical, or structural sub-assemblies.
• Intermediate understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) application.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and creates schematics, layouts, and other related documents.
• Creates moderately complex 3D models and makes some design calculations.
• Provides information to assist with procurement, fabrication, assembly, installation, and other aspects of the completed design.
• Performs field investigations to assist in resolving design issues.
• Interacts with vendors, requestors, fabricators, and machine shops.
• Maintains and updates related files and databases; electronically stores archives of drawings.
• Assists engineers with engineering analysis using model measurement tools.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Abides by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.
