This position will provide functional detailed checking of comprehensive plant and pipeline facility drawings for detail completeness, design accuracy, operational integrity, and conformance to applicable codes, engineering designs and specifications, company standards and procedures and property accounting unit classifications, in an assigned section (i.e., electrical, mechanical, CAD) of the engineering department.

Responsibilities
  • Verify electrical design information and drawing criteria, including dimensions, layouts, equipment arrangements, specifications, material requirements, constructability, operational considerations, and coordination with related disciplines. Review electrical engineering and design inputs for accuracy, completeness, and coordination with other disciplines, including one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, control diagrams, equipment layouts, panel layouts, cable and conduit schedules, raceway layouts, grounding details, engineering sketches, bills of material, and related design documents. Provide markups on electrical drawings to identify consistency errors, revision needs, and discrepancies, and coordinate resolution with engineers and designers.
  • Help resolve discrepancies with engineering, construction, operations, vendors, and other stakeholders, and revise drawings in accordance with approved design changes or redirected requirements.
  • Assist in training designers, senior designers, lead designers, and third-party designers on electrical drafting techniques, design applications, checking practices, procedure requirements, and company standards.
  • Assemble as-built data packages and verify final construction drawings and documentation so completed project records reflect the installed electrical work and meet applicable project, company, and records requirements. Disseminate permanent documents for records storage.
  • Maintain working knowledge of electrical design aids, including handbooks, catalogs, manuals, equipment data, company standards, and applicable design procedures. Utilize CAD and related design tools to create, review, and maintain electrical drawings, support applicable procedures and staff training, and provide work direction and checking guidance to third-party designers assigned to projects.
Qualifications
  • An associate's degree in engineering technology, electrical design, drafting/design technology, a related technical field, or equivalent work experience. (Typically, three years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess an associate's degree.)
  • Eight years of related experience in electrical design, gas pipeline facilities, operations, construction, or engineering support is preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of electrical design drawings, drafting standards, checking practices, and company design procedures, including the ability to review drawings for completeness, consistency, constructability, operational integrity, and conformance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
  • Working knowledge of electrical design deliverables such as one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, cable and conduit schedules, raceway layouts, grounding details, equipment layouts, and related bills of material.
  • Ability to identify drawing discrepancies, coordinate comments with engineers, designers, project managers, construction personnel, and operations, and verify that corrections are properly incorporated.
  • Must be able to review and validate design information and supporting calculations prepared by engineers or designers for reasonableness, completeness, and consistency with the drawings; however, this position is not expected to independently perform all engineering calculations.
  • Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, good problem-solving skills, and the ability to take appropriate action or elevate issues when needed.
  • Thorough understanding of related drafting tools, procedures, and techniques.
  • Ability to provide work direction and checking guidance to assigned personnel or third-party designers when required.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and discipline-related design applications, document management systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with applicable engineering, operating, safety, and regulatory codes, standards, and procedures, including DOT, OSHA, NFPA 70, NNG standards, and other applicable requirements.
