Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a mechanical engineer to lead driveshaft design and release activities for automotive applications. You will coordinate CAD/BOM workflows, support design improvements with CAD studies, and ensure data integrity within Ford's PLM ecosystem.

The role emphasizes collaboration with design, manufacturing and quality teams, plus rigorous testing and validation to meet cost and quality targets. US work authorization is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 2 years of automotive driveshaft experience (including internships/co-ops/SAE).
  • 1 year of CAD experience.
  • Authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship not available.
  • Preferred: Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Preferred: experience with performance and durability testing (dynamometer and in-vehicle).
  • Preferred: Systems Engineering principles.
  • Preferred: familiarity with Ford's design tools and processes (DVP, DFMEA, Quality History).

  • Participate in design reviews and project planning.
  • Resolve complex engineering issues and mentor team members.
  • Deliver to cost and quality targets.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, development and release of engineering solutions for driveshaft performance, efficiency and durability
  • Manage product release CAD and BOM structures, including assembly positioning and mass attribute analysis
  • Facilitate supplier data integration
  • Develop CAD studies to support design improvements
  • Utilize product check-in/check-out, version control, data release and change management within Ford's PLM ecosystem
  • Perform CAD feasibility analyses, including draft angle analysis, undercut detection, minimum bend radius validation for sheet metal and clearance checks
  • Collaborate with Design, Manufacturing, Quality and other engineering teams
  • Manage testing and validation protocols for reliability, safety and compliance
  • Conduct data analysis and provide technical insights for product improvements
  • Participate in design reviews, technical meetings and project planning
  • Resolve complex engineering issues and mentor team members
  • Deliver to cost and quality targets
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • 2 years of experience with driveshafts in an automotive domain or similar, including internships, co-ops and SAE
  • 1 year of CAD experience
  • Ability to travel occasionally, estimated less than 10%
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Visa sponsorship is not available
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience with performance and durability testing, including dynamometer and in-vehicle validation (preferred)
  • Understanding and application of Systems Engineering principles (preferred)
  • Familiarity with Ford's Design and Release Tools, including WERS, Teamcenter, FEDE and ED&T, and processes including DVP, DFMEA, Quality History and Warranty Analysis (preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and engineering software for simulation, analysis and modeling, including CAD and CAE software (preferred)
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and creative approach to engineering solutions (preferred)
  • Communication, presentation and interpersonal skills (preferred)
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse cross-functional teams (preferred)
