Job summary

United Launch Alliance, LLC. seeks a Deputy Program Manager for Software Engineering to lead a large-scale, multi-year software effort for Centaur V and SLS programs.

You will coordinate software ARTs, drive agile practices, and partner with Product Managers, RTEs, and Scrum Masters to ensure on-time delivery. The role requires 10+ years in aerospace/defense program management, strong budgeting skills, and experience with C++, Python, and Linux in a SAFe environment.

Job Overview & Responsibilities

At ULA, the Deputy Program Manager 5 for Software Engineering will serve as a key programmatic contributor supporting the Software Program Manager in executing a large-scale, multi-year software development effort for the Centaur V SLS program. This position will help coordinate scrum teams within the Software Agile Release Trains (ARTs) encompassing Ground Software, Flight Software, Real-Time Emulation, Simulation, Infrastructure, and related software domains within a modified Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment that will interfaces with other Program ARTs.

This individual contributor role requires a proactive problem-solver who can operate independently to identify, escape, and resolve programmatic issues affecting software delivery. The ideal candidate will serve as a force multiplier for the Software Program Manager by removing obstacles, managing stakeholder relationships, and driving program execution across cost, schedule, contractual, and risk dimensions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactively identify programmatic and technical risks & issues across software ARTs before they become problems; develop comprehensive risk mitigation and contingency plans; facilitate risk review boards and maintain risk register with visibility to program leadership
  • Drive technical integration and issue resolution across software teams
  • Drive successful customer product integration and positive relationship management outcomes
  • Manage contractual requirements, deliverables, and milestones for software scope
  • Work with Product Manager, Release Train Engineers (RTEs), Scrum Masters, and Product Owners to optimize program-level execution; help identify and remove organizational impediments to Agile adoption; monitor team velocity and delivery metrics.
  • Support Program Increment (PI) Planning activities and ensure alignment across software teams
  • Develop and maintain software program budgets, cost baselines, and financial forecasts; maintain integrated master schedules (IMS) and identify schedule compression opportunities
  • Prepare program status reports, executive briefings, and customer presentations; represent the Software Program Manager in meetings and program forums; coordinate communication between software teams and other program elements
  • Support long-range planning, roadmap development, and capacity planning for software teams; coordinate resource allocation and staffing plans across multiple software disciplines; track dependencies between software and hardware development activities

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) or a related technical field from an accredited college or university
  • Experience with the Software Engineering development lifecycle (Requirements, Design, Implementation, Test & Release)
  • Experience interfacing with analysis & design disciplines
  • Demonstrated experience managing aerospace or defense programs with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities
  • Experience with task planning/budgeting and organizational skills, which support effective project performance
Preferred Qualifications
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and/or SAFe Program Consultant (SPC)
  • Strong background in risk management methodologies, contractual relationships, and experience with NPR 7150.2D, SMC-S-012/-021, AS9100, CMMI, or similar quality and process standards
  • 10+ years of experience in aerospace or defense program management with exposure to NASA programs, human spaceflight systems, launch vehicle development, or satellite software systems
  • Experience and ability to drive strong team culture
  • Ability to develop and motivate employees
  • Ability to engage and motivate a team to improve tools and processes
  • Excellent team communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Experience leading teams
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, facilitation and organizational skills

  • Cybersecurity experience for software development environments
  • Software Architecture (ability to guide and shape standards)
  • Software Coding Experience, including C++, Python, Linux
  • Experience with modern software development practices & tools
Summary Salary Range (forULA - Denveronly):

$165,592.00 - $275,986.00
