Job summary

Frederick County Government seeks a Deputy Sheriff – Lateral to provide a full range of law enforcement services in Frederick, MD. This sworn, full-time role emphasizes community policing, supervisory duties, and independent judgment within the chain of command.

Eligible lateral candidates must be MPCTC-certified (or comparable), at least 21, a U.S. citizen, and a high school graduate, with a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a Frederick County driving permit.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 21 years.
• U.S.A. citizenship.
• High school graduation or the equivalent.
• Current Law Enforcement certification by the MPCTC or a comparable certification from a State outside of Maryland.
• Possession of a valid driver's license with the ability to obtain and maintain a Frederick County employee driving permit.

Responsibilities

• Rotating assignments may include vehicle patrol, investigations and testimony, traffic control, prisoner transport, emergency response, court security, search and seizure, training and guidance of junior officers, community awareness.
