Job summary

The Alexandria Sheriff's Office is recruiting for a Deputy Sheriff I to serve the City of Alexandria. This role requires integrity, respect, and courage, with flexibility to work day or night shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Entry-level salary is competitive with built-in overtime opportunities in the Detention Center. Deputies work 12.5-hour shifts at the Detention Center, handling inmate supervision, security, and transportation, while also performing general law enforcement duties across the

Qualifications

• Must be at least 20 years old at time of initial application.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.
• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Must be a United States citizen, or lawfully present.
• Must not have a felony conviction.
• Must not have a misdemeanor crime involving moral turpitude, a misdemeanor sex offense, or domestic violence.
• Must not be listed as the respondent to a protective order.
• Must not have been dishonorably discharged from any branch of the United States Military.

Responsibilities

• Supervise inmate living units and manage inmate behavior in the Detention Center.
• Handle inmate requests and ensure safety and security within the facility.
• Service of court papers, warrant execution, and courthouse/courtroom security.
• Transport prisoners and perform general law enforcement duties within the City of Alexandria.
