Buchanan County MO Government in Saint Joseph seeks a law enforcement officer to safeguard the public, patrol neighborhoods, respond to calls, and enforce laws while upholding constitutional rights.
The role requires passing a background check and drug screening, US citizenship, 18+ years, and Missouri licensing. Training and ongoing duties include arresting suspects, writing citations, and preparing reports.
Performs a variety of tasks by providing the public with a safe and secure environment for all by safeguarding life, patrolling assigned areas, making arrests, writing citations, preparing reports, and preserving the peace while defending the rights and liberties guaranteed to every individual by the Constitution of the United States of America.

Preference will be given to applicants that are experienced peace officers, and who are currently MO POST certified, however some exceptional candidates may be sent to the Academy.
Some work in an office setting with a controlled environment. Exposure to extreme weather conditions and highly intense situations. Extended sitting while conducting field operations. Physical activity includes bending, walking, lifting, standing, running and stooping. Exposure to environmental conditions such as dirt, dust, loud noise, fumes and sudden temperature change. May have exposure to blood and other bodily fluids. Visual acuity and color perception a must. Normal hearing ability essential. Occasional intense physical contact while affecting arrests. Occasional sprint in process of apprehending a suspect. Physical strength to subdue combative individuals. Must perform these functions in a range of conditions including residences, stairwell, traffic-ways and open areas over uneven surfaces. Must refrain from using tobacco products while on duty.
