Job summary

The Brown County Public Defender's Office seeks a Deputy Public Defender to advocate for individuals who cannot afford legal representation in criminal, abuse/neglect, juvenile, mental health, and involuntary committal cases.

Qualifications

• JD required; bar admission or eligibility to the SD Bar.
• 0–10 years of experience in law.
• Admission or eligibility to practice law in South Dakota.

Responsibilities

• Zealous representation of clients in criminal, abuse/neglect, juvenile, mental health and involuntary committal proceedings.
• Coordinate with the Chief Public Defender and staff to provide information to courts, court administration, clerk of courts, county auditor and county commission as requested.
