Job summary

Churchill County Alternate Public Defender’s Office seeks a Deputy Public Defender II to provide skilled, zealous representation for indigent clients in Nevada state courts. The role involves handling a variety of cases from misdemeanors to felonies, with opportunities for appellate work and complex legal research.

Qualified applicants will hold a Juris Doctorate and be admitted to practice in Nevada, with at least four years of courtroom experience.

Qualifications

• Proficient knowledge of criminal law for adults and juveniles.
• Strong legal research and writing abilities.
• Familiarity with judicial procedures and evidentiary rules.

Responsibilities

• Represent indigent clients in a wide range of defense cases, including misdemeanor and felony matters.
• Investigate cases, interview clients and witnesses, and gather evidence.
• Prepare for and conduct hearings and trials, including appellate work when applicable.
• Engage in plea negotiations and advise clients on potential outcomes and options.
