Job summary

Thurston County is seeking a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in Olympia to prosecute cases across District Court, Juvenile Court, and/or Superior Court, depending on qualifications. The role requires strong legal research, writing, and analytical reasoning, with rigorous ethics and public service commitment.

Under supervision, you will handle case preparation, trial work, and potential appellate tasks, while supporting law enforcement and upholding the county's core values.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a recognized and accredited school of law and a member in good standing of the Washington State Bar Association.
• Basic knowledge of the laws of the State of Washington; the rules and procedures of county, state, and federal courts and administrative agencies.
• Ability to perform legal research; analyze and apply rules, statutes or other laws or legal principles to facts; maintain good public relations.

Responsibilities

• Review and evaluate evidence to determine charges in accordance with office policy and law.
• Provide legal advice to law enforcement and assist with warrants and subpoenas.
• Prepare charged cases for trial, interview witnesses, examine evidence, and prepare exhibits and motions.
• Lead or participate in trial work and appellate briefs as needed.
• May provide training presentations to attorneys and staff and may supervise other attorneys or staff.
