Job summary

Burnett Specialists is seeking a Deputy General Counsel for Solar/ Clean Energy in Northwest Houston. This role focuses on drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex purchase, supplier, and intercompany agreements to support our growing renewable projects.

You will partner with business leaders, provide practical legal guidance, ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, and supervise disputes or litigation coordination as needed. Hybrid schedule: 4 days in office, up to 1 remote.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from a Top 50 U.S. law school.
• Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• 8+ years of relevant transactional legal experience.
• Experience in solar, renewable energy, clean energy, or related industry preferred.
• Strong knowledge of contract law, commercial transactions, UCC matters, and supply/sales agreements.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate purchase, supplier, intercompany, equipment, construction, and leasing agreements.
• Partner with internal business leaders and provide practical legal guidance.
• Advise on contract terms, payment structures, insurance, bonding, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
• Prepare formal notices, default letters, and other contractual communications.
• Support project teams with contract interpretation, enforcement, and compliance.
• Assist with disputes, claims, and litigation matters, coordinating with outside counsel as needed.
• Ensure agreements and business activities comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws.
• Review NDAs, vendor agreements, policies, and other corporate documents.
• Maintain corporate records, minutes books, and required filings.
• Work cross-functionally with operations, finance, sales, procurement, and other teams.

What You’ll Do

• Draft, review, and negotiate purchase agreements, supplier agreements, intercompany agreements, equipment, construction, and leasing agreements.
• Partner directly with internal business leaders and provide practical, business-focused legal guidance.
• Advise on contract terms, payment structures, insurance, bonding, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
• Prepare formal notices, default letters, and other contractual communications.
• Support project teams with contract interpretation, enforcement, and compliance.
• Assist with disputes, claims, and litigation matters, coordinating with outside counsel as needed.

What We’re Looking For

• Strong knowledge of contract law, commercial transactions, UCC matters, and supply/sales agreements.
• Proven ability to negotiate complex agreements and identify and manage business risk.
• Strong business judgment and the ability to provide practical legal advice to non-legal stakeholders.
• Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, growing organization where the legal function partners closely with the business.

Work Schedule

• Northwest Houston / Cypress area
• Monday–Friday
• 4 days per week in the office
• Remote work available up to 1 day per week

Compensation & Benefits

• $180,000–$250,000+ base salary, depending on experience plus a yearly bonus
